Mark Brown and I are Kansas City natives and have been married 34 years. We have two sons, Corey and Nolan. Corey works with Mark at Burger and Brown Engineering located also in Grandview. Nolan is the brewer and owner of Transparent Brewing Company. Erin is Corey’s wife and Beckett, Ryker, and Kash are our fabulous grandsons.
We are regular people with a whole lot of ambition trying to do good things by bringing this venture to Grandview, serving the local and surrounding communities with good food, beer and more, and providing jobs for people in a positive, nurturing environment.
I, Michelle, began this journey with an idea in mind. I studied at JCCC’s culinary program for three years where a class on local food inspired me and helped refine my idea. That idea then became a vision when Mayor Jones of Grandview said he wanted to have a microbrewery in Grandview. Nolan was already a brewer and had been working in varied breweries across the United States.
I then thought, “Why not!” a farm to table café with a microbrewery. Nolan came on board, expressing interest in having his own brewery to express his own concept and produce his own recipes.
We found a location in Grandview we liked with good access, visibility and enough acreage for growth, although many doubted this location. We began designing, began a funding search, began networking and planning and began developing recipes and menus.
Four years later we had financing, had city approval, had architectural plans, had a contractor, celebrated a groundbreaking, had built a strong following from 50 food and beer tastings and we were on our way.
The Chive, Simply Good Café/Market concept is farm to table and as much locally sourced as possible. The menu is fresh, all made from scratch, vegetable forward, changing often based on what is coming from our local farmers. We offer, stay awhile, indoor seating with counter service in the café and taproom, an outdoor patio and an activities area, and a dog park. For those in a hurry, we have a convenient take out market featuring our recipes in a to go format and other local natural products.
For you, our customers, it is simply good food and good beer, fresh and local, farm to table, a taste adventure, casual counter service, open 7am-7pm 7 days/week, a stay awhile place, a take home market, a community invested space, health conscious, and sustainably focused.
I hope you enjoy yourself and are fully satisfied each and every time you come. And I hope you come a lot!
